Indigenous Food Database

Across the first 12 – 18 months, document up to 1,000 of the top Australian plants used as food by Indigenous communities by working with existing Indigenous communities connected to The Orana Foundation, and then supplemented with searches of online databases, botanical and anthropologists literature.

The focus of searches will be mainly on arid and semi-arid regions, and will tie in with Atlas for Living Australia, Australia’s Virtual Herbarium and Terrestrial Ecosystem Research Network databases. Discussion of publication of the species database through these partners will be negotiated during the project, with the intention to publicly release the information through one or more of these partners.
